4 year old "scared", new behavior, covers ears, "i'm scared"

She is an otherwise very confident, outgoing child.

Only in the last week or two she has demonstrated not wanting to be alone because, "I'm scared." Lies in bed crying with ears covered, "I'm scared."

She's very verbal, and has been asked scared of what. "I don't know."

is there such a "phase"?

yes i do believe there can be a phase like this.

my son did this for a while & even though he was very verbal from early on, he sometimes wasn't able to vocalize/explain things. he went through a phase where he was afraid of certain noises, the dark, people, etc.

does your child exhibit any anxiety over other types of things? has there been exposure recently to new things, events, surroundings in life, preschool, etc? i think part of this is normal development and part of it may be sensory related, or not?

i would suggest keeping an eye on it and talking through things as much as possible. if it becomes an impediment to daily living and functioning then i would be more concerned.

It happened to me and it happens again in a few times with a child who has developmental disorder PDD-nos type and related sensory disorders.
