8 year old daughter has SPD and Anxiety

by Maureen
(MA)

Any ideas on helping an 8 year old with anxiety mainly in the social arena - she has many friends who like her but she doesn't believe it - she needs lots of reassurance that she is liked and is a good kid, etc. Any books or games or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Maureen

Try nintendo dogz, also webkinz. They feel needed because they have to care for animal,as far as social,I believe its more their own perception of things and just listening to them is all you may do.I would feel bad often for my daughter, but did not need to. She was socially a butterfly.

I spent lots of time describing what the other person could be feeling in response to the situation that she was in. It seemed like she didn't understand others a lot but loved or hated them.not much middle ground with feelings.

My 12 year old suffers the same thing,I walk a line of validating her feelings and not feeding into them.It is the most difficult job parenting this child.

I for the past year or so have her in counseling and on Celexa and have a swing for her and a therapy ball, that's a exercise ball. And school is gonna start Wilbergers brushing and some sensory diet. Pay close attention to her sensory needs,Beading,or should I say organizing the beads is her favorite past time. dogz nintendo ds is her favorite electronic game. Uno is her favorite card game, monopoly is her favorite board game.pj are her favorite clothes,Archie comics engage her reading enjoyment, any other books for reports she hates.

She used to cry to me and say she had no friends ,I BELIEVE SHE HAD MORE THEN MOST AND WAS JUST SO SENSITIVE SHE FELT SHE WAS NOT THE TOP DOG.She doesn't form close friendships but maintains many friends. She hates showers so I use a radio to distract her in the bathroom. join the yahoo sensory all about kids group if you have not.good luck
