Do these symptoms fit SPD?

by Nayia
(Cyprus)

Hello I have a 22-year-old friend who has been diagnosed when he was a kid with dyslexia and ADHD. He also has hypersensitivity to the smell and sight of fruit. He cannot stand the smell of them and he gets irritated, angry, nauseous and socially awkward when people around him eat fruit. we have been flatmates for the last 3 years and I could never bring any kinds of fruit at home. My first question is if this fits SPD and secondly is there anything that adults can do on their own to get rid of these behavioral traits when a certain sense irritates them?

It is not behavioral. However at least as far as I know there is the least known about this particular sense and no protocols to treat it. We are talking about the olfactory sense of course. The only thing that I can think of as a way to approach it would be to slowly and gradually attempt to habituate with small doses of fruit aroma exposure that can be tolerated and gradually increase the exposure intensity and variety. This would presumably take place over a long period of time. As far as I know, there is no research on it.
