Documenting Sensory In Occupational Therapy Notes

by Abigail

I work in an outpatient clinic treating pediatric clients across the spectrum of developmental, physical, and mental-emotional health diagnoses or lack there of.

I am having trouble working with some insurances that do not cover sensory integration. If sensory is even mentioned in a note that they view, all services are denied/not covered for the client.

The majority of the time I relate sensory modulation work towards self or emotional regulation but I still at times find myself using the terms sensory processing, sensory integration, sensory modulation.

Is there an ethical way to document without using the word "sensory" to ensure effective treatment and billing?
