Help please!

I am a 22 year old female. I have ALWAYS had issues with clothing. I find anything other than sweats and gym shorts uncomfortable. Sometimes, it gets to the point that the i dread the idea of putting on clothes. Jeans make me want to cry. I've dealt with this my entire life, going through ups and downs. But lately i'm having a horrible, horrible problem.

UNDERWEAR has become uncomfortable!!!!

I don't know what to do! I've tried 4 or 5 different kinds now. I will buy some new pairs, think they're ok for a couple weeks and then one day they just start bothering me, and it gets worse and worse until i cant think about anything else and i can't function properly at all!

Its just uncomfortable and bothersome to have something tight fitting down there. I'm absolutely miserable and don't know what to do.I'm making an appointment with the school counseling center asap, but i don't know that anyone will understand this issue.

I have not been diagnosed with any kind of sensory defensiveness or mental problems whatsoever. I don't know if this is what is wrong, but i do KNOW that something IS WRONG.

Is there help??????????

Clothing issues
by: Sandy

First of all, there is no law that says you have to wear underwear! I have not worn it for decades and it improved my situation immensely! (of course showering every day is key, as well as changing clothes every day). Also, I only wear lose fitting 100% cotton clothes. ALWAYS wash them first, using only a tiny drop of detergent and NO fabric softener. Also, Aveeno oatmeal baths can be heavenly, just be careful as they make the tub slippery! Good luck to you, and know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

Have your medical doctor

write a prescription for an evaluation for sensory processing disorder. Find an Occupational Therapist that is familiar with sensory issues to do the eval.

Sounds like you have tactile issues. My DD is very sensitive to clothes and she has to wear a leotard for underwear. She has been diagnosed with SPD -tactile defensiveness. She cannot stand anything around her waste and only wears stretchy pants, which she pulls up almost to her chin.

You must try to desensitization yourself to clothes.

Try this for pants- find a brand with a wide waistband, then wear the pants for 15 minutes a day for at least 3 days to start desensitize yourself. Also do this with any other article of clothing. Try to increase the length of time wearing the clothes after a week.

Also wash your clothes with fabric softener, many times- or try buying clothes at a thrift store (these are soft and broken in). I wash my DD clothes and then line dry them - this seems to help and sometimes we stretch them.

Once you are diagnosed with SPD, your OT will show you exercises and brushing techniques.

Watch the weather for extreme barometric changes- to see if you are more sensitive to weather changes. Lows pressure systems seem to adversely affect my DD adversely.
