Helping siblings of an SPD child cope/understand

by Sherri
(MO)

My daughter is 7 years old and wasn't diagnosed with any form of SPD until last year. She is currently going through more thorough testing with a neuropsychologist, after a year of OT once a week. She is hyposensitive in basically every sense of the word.

While I am willing and able to get or do anything she needs, the bigger problem she has is with her siblings at home. We are a blended family with 5 kids, currently ages 7, 7, 5, 5, and 2 1/2. The other kids don't understand why she does the things she does or how to deal with her when she does them. She gets so much extra attention, I'm concerned about how they will perceive it.

Any tips on how to help them understand or deal with her behavior?
