High functioning schizophrenic

by Jack
(KY)

I was diagnosed 8 years ago with schizophrenia. I used to be employed in the field of health care and working with the developmentally disabled. Anyway, I spend a lot of time in my apartment, and I have transformed my apartment into a sensory room. I use alot of floral arrangements, painted floral copper framed artwork, asian vases, candle holders, metal, and fabrics in my "sensory home". I find the array of florals and different batik, indian, and asian fabric patterns to be quite therapeutic. I also use stained glass lamps for lighting, and use colored glass dishes and cookware.

In addition, I have 2 aquariums, with live plants, and a variety of compatible fish. Sometimes I burn incense, or candles. I use an air purifier to keep the air fresh, and crisp, like fresh air. My houseplants give added tranquility to my sensory rooms.
