I am not alone!

by J
(Indiana)

I have so many of these signs. As an adult I have come to terms with being sensitive or "picky." And I have learned to cope with most of it, but it feels good to know that I am not alone and I'm not this way because I was "spoiled" as a child. (I wasn't but some people seem to believe that.)

I am a very picky eater (taste, mostly, not texture) and I am also very sensitive to loud noises, bright lights, touch, and some other things.

My advice, if your child is a picky eater, don't force them or push them. Support them! I don't think you should treat it unless it is a serious health situation (as in, all the child will eat is Hershey bars). Otherwise, just help the child experiment to find what he/she can tolerate. I learned that the reason I didn't like many foods wasn't the main part of the food, but the seasonings etc. that were added. For example, I love plain hamburgers and steak, but many times these foods have added ingredients that taste disgusting to me.
