Independence

Someday, you won’t fall asleep on my shoulder

after finishing a goodnight bottle
or cry for me when you wake up in the middle of the night;

Someday, you won’t need me to pick out your outfits,
get you dressed, tie your shoes,
or give you your bubble bath before bed;

Someday, you won’t ask for me
to kiss your owies away when you fall
or read to you your favorite book again and again;

Someday, you won’t reach out for me
to take your hand when we walk down the street
or run to me with glee when I come home from work;

Someday, you won’t cling to me behind my legs
whenever you meet someone new
or make funny faces at me when you try a new food;

Someday, you won’t measure your age and clothes size in months,
but rather in years, and I will have to let you go,
in order for you to grow;

I just thank God that today is not someday quite yet;
if only I could freeze this moment in time,
because I know that I’m truly blessed
that I got to spend it all with you,
My baby boy

Caleb's joyous mommy- now 3 years old (and SPD)

Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this! It is so easy to forget what gift we have in these children! It is so easy to feel overwhelmed and focus on yourself and how tiring it all is. It is so daunting to believe we will have to do this forever. But it is so important to treasure each moment and to enjoy the time we have with these wonderful little people in our lives!
