My 3 yr old son tends to gag or even puke with food

by mrs. martin
(arkansas)

i have a three year old son who is a very picky eater. if you try to get him to eat something that he has never ate he will gag or puke when trying to eat it. he has a very slim list of things that he will eat. he does not have problems with drinking. he will eat items such as pudding, bananas, cheese, macaroni, mashed potatoes, and hot dogs. please, help me!! he seems to be ok but i would just like him to gain more weight.

Gagging and Puking

I totally understand. Have you tried the Pediasure or even mixing in a liquid vitamin into his juice? I had to do this with my Daughter until she could eventually work thru these texture issues. Just make sure it doesn't get so bad that he stops eating or is losing weight. That is when you might consider seeing an OT. My pediatrician told me not to worry so much that they seem to get what they need. Oh what has the same texture as a potato and you can mix them into mashed potatoes if he eats them is pureeed cauliflower of all things.
