Night Light

My almost 5-year old has SPD and Unspecified Pervasive Developmental Disorder. One of his quirks is he hates being in the dark. Unfortunately we are 5 people in a 2 bedroom apartment. He shares a room with a brother 1 year younger and a baby sister. The baby sister can't stand any light when she's sleeping. I am trying to figure out a happy compromise. Do you know of a dim light my son can turn on if he wakes up in the dark and feels anxious? Maybe something he can hold?

Tent
by: Anonymous

Is there a way to put a child safe "tent" over one of the children? Either the one with fear that needs a light so they can have a night light without bothering the other one. Or maybe over the one that does not like the light to keep the light out? When I was young my mom fashioned one for me out of a sheet because I shared a room with 2 sisters. They both wanted a night light and I needed complete darkness.

Music Light

My son has exactly the same diagnosis as your son, and he is terrified of the dark. A solution that we found is one of the musical light up soothers that you put on the side of a crib. He wore his first one out already. Music is one of the things that helps to calm him so this has a double effect for him. I really hope this helps you out.
