Opposite direction

by Emily Buswell
(Cambridge MA)

I have a almost 2yr old child in my daycare home and she always seems to use the opposite or goes in the opposite direction from what is needed. Examples of these are she she will climb into the (van) and go to the side to climb up furthest away from her seat, when coloring she colors the bottom of where it is blank instead of the picture is(we scribble),when climbing on a playground toy, bike she uses the wrong foot to climb on and ends up backwards, when we start out walking as always goes the opposite direction and these are all unintentional. I really feel it isn't a oppositional behavior. She has a hard time remembering what not to do or touch, yet she can tell you every number, letter, shape, color. Instructions and directions are hard so I need to break them down, step by step.

Any insight would be great.
