Peditricians missing the signs of SPD

by Sue Meadows

Finally, I have a diagnosis for my son with SPD. I have waited eleven years. I had three different Pediatricians and no one was concerned when I saw foods dropping from his diet beginning at the age of 1. I noticed the foods never came back. Finally a therapist at the school I worked with recommended me to Children's Medical Center in CT.

My question is why aren't pediatricians listening? We have been so frustrated for so long especially at family gatherings where our child doesn't it and it is noticed. Doctors need to be trained to know what the signs are. I am so happy he is finally in treatment one month before he turns 12years old. My husband isn't sure, but I always have been. My pediatrician knows now. Thanks,
Susan Meadows

Ot needed
by: Marina

Peadiatritioans are trained for medical pysical and more body function than the finer details involved in SPd as parents we should be informed of the option to see an ot I waited 7 years was viewed as over anxious malchosen and disregarded concerning the real fear and difficulties my son had

It is close to autism and a relatively new condition to the medical profession. Some still do not recognise or accept it.

What a heaven send when the diagnosis is finally made but just the beginning of a nightmare that is ongoing
