Potty Training

by Mendy Maxwell
(Corona, Calif.)

My Granddaughter is 5 years old and is moderately autistic and has sensory processing issues. She will not sit on her potty and refuses to have anything to do with potty training. She fears having bowel movements and when she does she does so by standing up and flaps her hands trying to hold it in. She sometimes cries when she needs to have a bowel movement. She does not seem to be aware when she needs to urinate either. My daughter has yet to find someone or a method that can help her daughter. Does anyone have any suggestions?
