Pretend biting and putting her fingers in other children's ears

by sandy
(Michigan)

I have a 9 year old grand daughter. she is having a hard time at school. She doesn't seem to understand other people's space. She is now into pretend 'biting' of her class mates and sticking her finger in their ears. she has no friends. When some one acts like they want to be her friend, she does something strange and they don't want to be around her anymore. She is being treated for ADHD at this time. they are thinking maybe something else is going on

Sounds classic sensory

These actions do suggest some classic SPD issues. It might be prudent to have an occupational therapy assessment. They have many activities to work with children in learning space issues and the appropriate ways to approach others when wanting to play. It seems like the sweet girl is trying to engage friends, however, spatial issues may be interfering. Good Luck and enjoy your unique granddaughter.
