We have just designed a sensory room on a budget for individuals with developmental delay. Some inexpensive options included things like lava lamps, and other visual gizmos. For flooring, we used foam tiles that connect like puzzle pieces, so they were easy to fit to the room. We included 2 black lights mounted on the walls, and found multiple objects that would glow under the light. We also found an inexpensive surround-sound stereo that takes cds or USB. The more expensive items in the room included a bubble column, and a fibre-optic light spray. The most inexpensive items included any fun tactile elements we could get our hands on (feathers, squishy balls, sandpaper...)
