Salt

We have a four year old with massive SPD issues. One that concerns us is the fact that he is constantly eating salt. We find him in the pantry all the time getting into the cooking salt. Also, he loves salty foods - anything with salt including drinking brine off olives etc. We have not been able to get any answers anywhere here so far in Aus. Does anyone or has anyone experienced this and is there anything we can do?

Salt NEW
by: Snesorymomma

We have two boys with SPD and both of them are Salt lovers. It can sometimes cause massive meltdowns at the dinner table as we have to limit salt use. We asked the staff at Children's hospital but no one seemed to concerned. Our oldest son would eat it right from the box. Our solution was to just not have it around however they still eat a lot of salty food.

Salt Seeker NEW

My 3.5 yo SPD son has always sought out salty foods (sardines, olives, herring, salmon) but he also likes sugar. Definitely sounds worth getting your son tested for sodium deficiency.

i have a son with spd issues as well. although his cravings and tendencies are for sugary foods, but i have heard of sodium deficiency before. have you had his sodium levels checked. if he has a deficiency, it would show on a blood test. perhaps his intestines are not absorbing salt the way they should? there is such a thing.
