School dress code

My daugher's school has quite a long dress code. She hasn't any problems, besides the pants. The students are required to wear stiff pants. We've tried all kind. I even found some with an elastic waist. She can't stand the feeling of the non-stretchy material against her skin when she moves. Every morning, she goes through all her pants. Stretching them as much as possible, in attempt to make them slightly baggier. Usually, getting dressed results in a meltdown. She is quite tall for her age, so lots of the clothing companies making comfortable pants don't go up to her size. She is 5 foot 3 inches. No buttons work at all. Any suggestions would be very, very much appreciated!

Leggings

Try having her wear stretchy running/compression leggings under her pants . That helped my daughter who hated wearing jeans because of their feeling on her skin.

School's inclusion policy
by: Anonymous

I would talk to school officials regarding their inclusion policies. It seems like they shouldn't be so strict on their dress code. Maybe get your child's doctor or OT talk to the principal about your daughter's SPD and see if they can relax the "rules" for her, and explain that the clothing is hampering her ability to ficus and learn. If they don't want to relax a bit then I think you need to really question the school as a whole. Maybe they don't have inclusion as one of their fundamentals and they need to be challenged. As far as the actual clothing, could you perhaps find a petite clothing store that sells the type of pants she needs and perhaps have them taken in a bit, rather then a kids clothing store.
