School problems

My son is 8ys old and we were only told he has sensory processing disorder only last year. My son can not handle noise, crowds and cannot handle certain food textures or smells.

He really finds school environment to much and won't play with anyone because he is afraid of hurting the kids. When he first started school he used to be sick at the door.He gets so stressed about school at home and it affects everything, even worries about his breathing at night. When he is at school he just keeps his head down.I really don't know what to do for the best for him. Please can you help.

Look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks. Sadie

Which homeschool we chose
by: Sean's mom

My 7yr old son had to be taken out of public school because when kids found out he was easily irritated by certain things, they would go up to him just to get a reaction. It was soo sad to watch. He too is sensitive to noise, touch, smells. Does not like crowds. We tried a Charter School first. It was ok. They said due to him falling behind they had to drop him. I tried Capistrano Connections Academy and he is doing just fine. He even says he likes this home school better. I hope this helps.

Which homeschool to choose?
by: Betty

We tried two online public school based homeschooling programs but I could not keep my 1st and 2nd graders motivated. They did not do well with the timeline that the school sets. They both have sensory integration disorder. I'm not confident enough to design a curriculum. I would up enrolling them into an Arizona public school. They can't handle the noise in the lunch room so they don't eat and now they're being bullied. i can't find any recommendations for homeschool curriculum designed for these kids. What has worked for other mom's

What we have done
by: Toni's mom

We were having similar problems and had tried a lot of different exercises.
We finally had to pull her from school and now we are Homeschooling her. She is doing amazing. It's the hardest thing my husband and I have ever done. We both work him full time grave yard shift me part time, but so worth it to see her doing so well. And her stress level went from a 12 to a 2!!! If you are interested try a charter school. That will allow you to get all the services he might need for free.
Prayers for you all!

Response to Question about Son
by: Anonymous

If you haven't started seeing an occupational therapist, start there. You also might want to consult with a psychologist and his anxiety. Once he can get some strategies down, the anxiety will lesson somewhat and school will be easier.
