Sensory room for my 11 year old son with ADHD

by Erica LaChappelle
(Montgomery, PA)

From what I've learned over the years, ADHD is in close proximity to Asperger's Syndrome. My 11 year old son, Austin, was diagnosed with ADHD at six years old. Since then, he has been kicked out of two schools due to his behavior and many teachers don’t understand him. Many of his symptoms mirror those of Asperger’s Syndrome. Austin has trouble with sensory integration. Since Austin shows many of the same symptoms as a child with Asperger’s Syndrome, I have undertaken the task of creating a sensory “break room” for him.

This site has inspired me. Now, I know that I can help my son! Thank you so much for all of the great information. I feel like there is hope!
