My son who is going to be three and half soon and he was diagnosed with SPD when he was only 18 months old. He has seen multiple doctors and they all give me the same prognoses. He now has ADHD, ODD and Autism. To top it all off he has sever asthma. I feel so lost. His day consist of different therapies and doctors. I am a single mom doing it all on my own. My question does it get easier as he grows up?

it is more than not, linked to something else. But it can be its own diagnosis sometimes. Kim Remember though, if it is not linked to a DX, then you cannot get the extra services through welfare! You are on your own. WHICH is why, you have to be sure someone isnt giving you a wrong DX, because of monetary issues! Like, the school..................... Be smart, keep yourself educated!!!!!!!!!!!!! kim

I wondered that too. NEW by: Anonymous
Hi,
I read tons of books on Asperger's and always ended up thinking the same thing, my daughter has some of the symptoms but not most of them. She only had the sensory ones. Now I think it's SPD. I've been reading Sensational Kids and it seems that to have SPD she would have to be more severe, as in disrupting her life. Maybe I just don't know how disruptive it is to her. I understand her more now and know that when she gets hurt she isn't overreacting.

SPD Can Stand AloneNEW by: Francine
Hello,
Our daughter has stand-alone SPD. She was misdiagnosed also as a baby, toddler & up until she was in second grade we didn't know what it was until her teacher, who has a daughter with Aspergers labeled it for us. We then had her tested by an OT & confirmed that she did have SPD only. It was so much easier to tolerate things & understand once we knew & had the information to obtain resources to help her.
We hope this post helps.

around SPDNEW by: Anonymous
I think that the more severe forms of SPD are the result of a primary disorder. Only in a few cases and in milder forms it is independent from other cause. In any case is always a problem for those who suffer from it must be recognized and understood and helped by the medical establishment

According to OTNEW by: Rachel
Hi, My son has seen OT and they say he has this and nothing else....apparently it is easily misdiagnosed as ADHD or AS and people with these may also have SPD. They all have characteristics that overlap all the disorders. Hope this helps :0)
