Speech Therapist

by Mary
(Missouri)

I have numerous questions regarding a Speech Therapists qualifications. 1st what is CCC-SLP? Is it mandatory for a school to hire a Licensed Speech Therapist? Or can they put anyone in that position? Specifically can a school district hire a aid with know speech educational background to work with children in speech therapy.

school CCC-SLP NEW

to answer your questions re: the credentials of CCC-SLP stand for Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology. The C's are a national license earned after the clinician has completed a Masters program in Speech Language Pathology and worked under supervision for a 36week interim. A speech therapy aide has training in implementing a treatment plan. A speech therapy aide generally works closely with the Speech Language Pathologist and is not able to evaluate or independently interpret evaluation results. Hope this helps.
