Toddler behavior

My son is 18 months old and recently he has become very aggressive towards himself. When being told "no" or "bed time" he will start freaking out by shaking his whole body, jumping up & down, and banging his head very hardly against either the floor or the wall & sometimes even against me (mom). What should i do?

Routine
by: Anonymous

My son had these behaviors during transitions. We would watch Blues Clues "bedtime business" video and then go through the bedtime business routine. Jammies on, brush teeth, read a book, etc. Then we would slowly transition to bedtime. For several years I would hold him until he fell asleep. His muscles were jerky and he would almost kick and push against me while I held him. It was a muscle control issue I think that got worse at bedtime. He can go to sleep on his own now (he is almost 8) but the traditional put them in their room and make them go to bed never worked and we tried it consistently. Some kids just need more help. I don't think it's natural for kids to sleep in a room alone when they are small.

try a few things..
by: Anonymous

only at bedtime? Does he have a soothing routine-hate the dark/hate the light-try adjusting that. try a radio. Try modifying his setting. try soft flannel sheets. we went through a phase where my kids loved sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag-actually my oldest does. Try having a cool tent in his room and sleeping in a tent. What is your reaction when this happens? Do you react or redirect? I would try to redirect.
