Toddler cover's ears

My 3yr old cover's his ears when he think's something is going to be loud. Is that a sensory issue?

My son did that at age three also, and I worried about SPD. But he is 4 1/2 now and doesn't do it anymore. I think he was more sensitive than most 3 year olds but has outgrown that.

Most people do cover their ears when they think something is going to be too loud. It is a normal response. Does he cover his ears and then scream or cry for longer than expected times or do noises cause him a higher amount of anxiety than what would be expected.
