Toddler w SPD

by Mary
(St Paul, MN)

I am a mom that is totally lost, I am researching SPD bc as of now I see the similarities of the testimonials of children w SPD closest to my daughter. Her name is Abigaile and we call her Abbie for short, she is 25 mos old, she still cannot talk. AS of now we have not identified a diagnosis and are treating solely symptomatically. She is enrolled in as much therapy as I can find to support her, there are no genetic signs of problems and there are no syndromes she is showing signs of. Autism is not an option bc she is very interactive w her environment and people in it! She brings smiles to everyone she meets w/o saying a word, she is my angel.

However, my suspicions are typically dismissed as her being two and throwing fits, also that I am a faulty parent that does not discipline her properly. Abbie is my third child, a surprise you might say the next child is 5yrs older!!! What a wake up call, I sincerely want to connect w other moms w toddlers w similar difficulties,or even moms that have input that may help me be strong in this daily changing battle. I feel the more I am learning the more I am understanding my baby girl for the first time!!!

i'm assuming you've had her hearing tested.

that aside, even if she doesn't have a hearing loss, you might consider the option of learning and teaching her some sign language so that she can have a way of communicating until you figure out further what you can do to help her. children learn sign language quickly.

here is one link to some great videos we own and which my boys love. www.signingtime.com

good luck.

What are her symptoms I want to help in whatever way I can. I have grew up with this disorder and now can articulate and understand my body and want to help others since going through it myself I know what a child is thinking. Please let me know your questions and how I can help
