My 2 yr old daughter has started in the last 2 weeks to scream when she gets a bath. not her hands washed but if water is on her body, she just looks like she is in pain... I feel so bad.

What do i do? How can i help? She has to be washed. I tried sponge bath and im going try dry shampoo.

bath drama
by: Anonymous

Our son went through a period of bath drama around that same age. For him I believe it was due to the water running--just too much noise going on. That and he had become fearful of the showerhead. I think there might be more sensory-related things going on with your daughter though. If I were in your shoes I think I would try to remove all other sensory stimulus--leave only hallway light on and turn bathroom light off and stop the running water. And dunk her towel in the warm water and wrap it around her to keep her nice and warm during the bath. Could it be that she's coming down with an illness and being wet is making her feel chilled? That's the worst feeling. Good luck.

Water Terror
by: Ethan's mom

My first thought was to put her in the tub with all of her clothes on. She may think it is really funny and silly. I did this a few times with Ethan when he was younger. Or change the color of the water by using food coloring. (Not red...it stains.) Or get a cheap can of Barbasol shaving cream and let her push the button to see make shaving cream boats. Also...do not have the water running. The sound could be disturbing her. As a last resort, take her into the shower with you. You may want to take a bath with her.

temperature
by: Anonymous

it could be the temperature of the water i read about this in a book it was explained that warm water was like ice and cold water was warmer depends on the child sensory disorder. Try at the sink different temperature by letting her place her hand under it the hand is a little tougher then the rest of the skin on our bodies. and see which one in more comfortable to her.
