Weighted waistcoat for my 8 year old son

by Lisa
(Skipton,England)

SPD is definitely real!!!!

Has anyone any advice on weighted waistcoats? I have just purchased one for my son who is 8 years old to help him in class.
I've tried to ask for advice from a local OT but as per usual have not had any response. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,

Happy New Year to everyone! Lisa

Hi- My son is 8. We just finished making him a weighted blanket that weighs 8 pounds and it seems to help sooth him at night, but he still can't sleep. He has used weighted lap snakes and vests and find that it helps but not as good as the turtle shell seat and other sensory objects. The problem is that you won't know until you try. I know we try so many things and some seem to help and others don't... and some days they help or at different times... I say try the waistcoat.
Good Luck!!

My grandson is 9 ys old. What does the waistcoat look like? Is it something an 8-9 yr old will wear without being embarrassed? He struggles all day to "keep it together" then lets it all out at bed time with a major meltdown that lasts quite a long time. I'm looking for something to keep him calm during the day so his emotions don't build up. Also, where did you order it from? Thanks!

I have a four year old preschool student with SPD and she is helped immensely by one of these vests. She is so much more calm.
