Why can't I touch fluffy or soft textures?

by Aurora

I as a Child could not stand touching anything fluffy, or excessively soft. I hated puffy things, such as my coat and would scream or cry if I had to touch them.

My texture issues still haven't faded. I still can't touch anything fluffy or soft such as fleece or fake fur. I can touch living things such as cats and dogs but anything else furry freaks me out.

My doctor has told me that I just have extra sensitive touch receptors so some things feel uncomfortable. My cousin also has a similar problem except she has it at a much more extreme level. She attempts to claw at her own skin in hopes that she will get rid of the bad texture she has felt.

I was wondering if you know why all of this is?

People think I'm overreacting

Well, I was the only child in our house who didn't have a klankie or stuffed animal. With modern clothes that uses more fleece than anything else, I have a terrible time finding winter clotes, especially because I'm also allergic to feathers and down products.

In South African school dress codes and rules were pretty much set in stone, thus my parents always had special arrangements made as my nails couldn't be cut as short as the rules dictated, and certain clothing items just drove me bonkers.

I've learned that I can use circle pressed cotton facial cleaning wipes, and take my own with if I know I have to have blood drawn. No need to mention that hubby makes the bed in winter or that even though I can crochet and knit, I can't touch wool.

Me Too!

So there are other people like me! I thought it was just in my head! It is a very real problem. I feel like whatever I touched sucked all the moisture out of me. The only way I can get rid of the feeling is by running water on my hands.

Same with me. I can't stand anything fluffy but am completely fine with touching animals. Everyone thinks I'm just being weird.

I have been the same way my entire life! Even when I was little I would refuse to wear the fleece sleepers and have always hated soft things aside from animals. I think it truly is a sensory processing disorder & have just recently decided to look in to it.

Just wanted to let you know you're not alone and it is honestly awful because people think you are being dramatic BUT IT IS REAL
