Won't Wear Tennis Shoes for PE-Need Help

My 7 year old has major issues with clothing socks shoes etc. But our latest battle is tennis shoes for PE. All he wants to wear right now are Crocs. Are there any tennis shoes out there that y'all know of that are comforting to these kids- DESPERATE MOTHER!!!

Sneakers you can wash in machine
by: Anonymous

My 5 year old son has Tactile Defensiveness and also doesn't like to wear socks. We found a very soft sneaker brand called Tsukihoshi. You can also wash them in the washing machine. Good luck!

NO BASEBALL

Our son has major shoe/sock issues. He is 9. We are at our end because he also has sensory issues with underwear, pants, jackets, hats, gloves... it has been a hard realization for us because he probably won't be able to play in his AA baseball this spring, and he (we all) love baseball. He cannot wear the proper attire. Time to get some help.

Crocs makes a "tennis shoe." That's what my daughter wears. She also will only wear Crocs.

Same Issue w/Socks and Shoes
by: J

Our 10 year old also has issues with wearing socks and tennis shoes. They have to be really really tight (as in pulling on socks so hard they rip or shoelaces snap), and even then she still often has a meltdown if they don't feel right. We may be able to get a not for PE, but she is actually a very good tennis player, so this is becoming an issue. It sounds like SPD, but we'll be taking her to a doctor soon.

No Tennis shoes

We had the same problem until the special ed designee at our school told me not to make him wear tennis shoes! She said that it is an issue that can be included in the IEP specifying that your child cannot tolerate tennis shoes and must be allowed to wear crocs or whatever shoes he/she can tolerate. Since then, we've never given it another thought. Obviously this will only work if your child has an IEP.

tennis shoes help
by: Julie

Try these http://www.shoes.com/en-US/Product/EC1143211-5088600/Stride+Rite/Brown_Sand/Kids'+Ian+Tod_Pre.aspx#reviews

kind of expensive but I love stride rite- my son wheres a pair similar to these and loves them- we went through the same nightmare. Plus these do not have shoe laces. You may be able to find less expensive ones at shopko-plus you can go there and check them out and have him try them on. Good Luck
