I understand that you can have SID without having autism, but asperger's is considered a spectrum disorder, but is not autism. SID is not seen by insurance companies as a spectrum disorder and therefore, many SID kids don't get the help they need because insurance won't cover it. If it were considered "on the spectrum" while not being autism, then these kids might be able to get the help they need.

You can have SID without autism. Our 9 year old has PDD with sensory and our 3 year old has only SID and speech issues. Most kids with autism have some sort of sensory issue but yes you CAN have SID without autism.
I would have a full evaluation to rule it out. You need to look at the whole picture I believe and rule out the other areas on the spectrum that would raise red flags. Speech, social and behaviors. Good luck
