4 year old wants everything tight (car seat , shoes) but won’t wear pants or long sleeves or closed toed shoes!

My 4 year old daughter.... really struggling with her sensory issues. Started around 2 ( maybe younger but hard to tell as a first time Mom).

As a baby 1-2 she always taking her clothes off. She would just get naked anywhere. 2-3 she wouldn’t do socks so I would let her wear her shoes no sock.

Started preschool at 3 1/2 and there was a rule that she had to wear socks. And that made her sensory worse. So now we are 8 months later and she only wears open toed shoes.

Also, no more pants or long sleeves (which was always tough to begin with) but now it won’t even happen.

Also, car seat. Total night mare. Screaming for it to get tighter. Can never get it right enough . Would try putting stuffed animal or blanket in between her and the seat belt to help with a tighter pressure. I would work at first but following day would be “too loose” (if I never hear the fraze “too loose “ again I will be the happiest mama ever Lol”.

I’ve just switched to a booster . That’s tough. But she has to deal. I have to turn around at ever light and pull the seat belt tighter.

She wants so badly to do ballet but can’t deal with the tights or the slippers. I want so badly to help her. I do dry brushing and massage her feet.

Any one have similar issues or techniques I can try?

Ideas For You
by: Anonymous

Full length bodysuit with some compression under clothes. Pain for going to the washroom but keeps my son calmer as it provides input to the body. My son either wants to be naked or compressed.

Seems like two extremes but with nothing on, he had nothing to struggle with ((clothes that do not feel good)

You're not alone
by: Hholds

Hi, I wish I had some advice to offer, but we are still trying to find solutions to very similar problems so I just wanted to leave a comment to let you know you are not alone, because if you're anything like me you probably feel that way a lot of the time.

My daughter wont wear closed toe shoes either and lives in barefeet or flip flops. We also tried ballet but had to quit because the tights and leotard didn't feel right and it wasn't worth the fight. I am terrified for when she starts school in a couple of weeks and the fights we will have every morning about her shoes.

Long story short, thank you for posting because it's nice to know I'm not the only one struggling <3 Big hugs to you.

Too Loose
by: Anonymous

Try putting on underclothes that are tight which might help with the Too Loose issue. She might feel the tight clothes and find that it helps.

You might want to get professional advise coz the child really needs help and she is not having tantrums but seems to be crying for help.

Good Luck.
