7 year old daughter refusing to put on clothes

For the past couple of weeks, my 7 year old daughter has been refusing to wear clothes. Getting her dressed has literally been a 3 hour fight every day. From panties to shirts to bottoms. She has a closet full of soft, sensory friendly clothing that she says feels weird or is itchy.




We have missed out on going places because of this refusal. I’ve tried everything. Being nice, rewards, being mean, consequences and punishments. Nothing works. My other children are really starting to resent her.

I am at a loss for what to do. Please help!

7 years old and not getting dressed? What about school - is she truant yet? Sounds like if you haven't, that you need to take her to an occupational therapist and get some real help.

If I were you, I would talk to your child's OT about this. I would also research information online about how this could be happening. There are a number of reasons why a child may have sensitivity to tactile experiences, one being that your daughter may be on the Autism Spectrum, two having ADHD and a number of things.

You also might want to talk to a psychologist about this and also try finding online forums to get the support you need.
