Can these symptoms come and go?

We discovered my daughter suffered from tactile defensiveness, we enrolled her in OT as soon as we put a name to her behaviors. It was great she went every week for 3 months, the change in her behavior and daily functioning was amazing. She stopped going in August 2013 and has done well since, until recently.

In the last couple weeks she has started to go back to how she was before. Is this normal, she was fine for 8 months and then it seemed like out of no where it started up again. Will this be something that comes and goes? if so is there something that would trigger it? Nothing has changed in her environment.

The clothes that she has wore for the last 8 months and tolerated with no problem she now can not wear, she is back to changing her underwear multiple times a day because they "Don't feel right" and many times if at home will just not wear underwear because she can't find any she feels ok in. The underwear is just one of many other clothing issues she is having. Any thoughts?

I think so

My son is 7 and has SPD. Our experience has been that the symptoms definitely come and go with growth spurts. We would just increase any sensory diet activities we were doing at home by a lot then wait it out.

SPD
by: Antoinette

Hi, my son is currently 7yrs old, he was diagnosed with SPD and APD when he was 5yrs old. He started OT and Speech Therapy when he was 5 and he coped very well and progressed to a point where he didn't need daily brushing, and he actually did very well, his OT was happy with his progress. He was in OT for 12mths when he started regressing in certain things. Previously he couldn't wear shirts and shoes with socks, and he managed to get over that hurdle quite well. In 2013 he regressed in OT, so much that OT has been stopped. He has also regressed in his speech and he has a GDD.

He has just been diagnosed with Familial Dysautonomia with is basically an autonomic nervous system dysfunction which effects your sensory nervous system as well as most organ systems. His SPD symptoms come and go continually and some days they are worse and some days not too bad. His tactile defensiveness is much worse at the moment than it has ever been.

I have started brushing him every 2hrs some days and it really helps.

Kind regards,
Antoinette.
