Making your own body sock

by Anita
(Richmond, VA)

My son's OT suggested we get him a body sock since he loves deep pressure and it would also work his upper body strength. I checked the prices and we just can't afford it right now. Does anyone know how to make one?

Thanks!

the best fabric?
by: Anonymous

what ratio should the fabric be to get the best results with? I've seen polyester, spandex. Also lycra, spandex type fabrics. I found a 90% spandex, 10% lycra at the store. Wasn't sure so i put it back. Any suggestions?

making your own body sock

laceandfabric.com has lycra fabric you can use to make your own body sock. They also carry autistic body socks and other autistic products at good prices. I bought a lycra swing there for a $80.

Check out oriental trading company, in the teaching supplies tab. Go to active play and look at the shape changers. They are pretty reasonable in price and come in 4 sizes.

Homemade body sock

HI, Sure,

Get some swim suit material off the dollar per yard table. Use a length about 6 inches shorter than your child. Sew about 6 inches down the top edges together and up the bottom with edges together. Lay that on the ground so that the seam is in the middle. Sew across the top and bottom and turn inside out. You should have something that resembles those funky coin purses that you squeeze to open.

Have your child climb inside. feet in the bottom corners and hands in the top corners. Push away!
