My five years old son licks over every soft thing

I am very much concerned about my son who is five now. He is developing a habit of licking. He lick over his sleeves a lot. His class teacher told me that all the times he is looking for sensory output. His face gets red and irritated due to licking over his sleeves and other soft objects. Please let me know how to handle this problem.

sounds like the licking does something for him. have you noticed that he does it at certain times? like when he's anxious, scared, overwhelmed? or is it pretty much constant, like an oral fixation that is always present?

gum has been a good outlet for our son. he also sucks on hard candies a lot as well. he also has a couple of chew toys and chewable capers for school pencils which have proven helpful.
