Public School Options?

by Dawn
(Tucson/ asking about Eugene, Oregon)

I've a grand-nephew who is a twin...premature with lengthy NICU experience. Both twins have some sensory issues but are doing fine with understanding family & smaller preschool classrooms. Old enough for Kindergarten, now. Father DX ADHD responded well to medication during his school experiences but does well without as an adult ... upper management.

Preschool suggested developmental kindergarten for the one twin & had mother complete a Sensory Profile. I'll be looking at the results & what they write up soon but do not have that in hand. He cannot settle & attend, historically has been somewhat defensive & rigid about preferences but is very physically active & competent. This does look like SPD but could be ADHD. I've been standing back until they ask for my input (OTR working in school systems here & recognized the behaviors...). Mom has asked for my input, sooooo

The family will be relocating to the Eugene, Oregon region and are wondering about kindergarten within the public school system and best choices. Prefer to not stigmatize child but do want him to feel successful within the educational system.

Also wondering about other resources in the area (Coburg) relative to sensory integration/occupational therapy services, etc.

hi Dawn,
The Eugene Waldorf school is a beautiful, holistic private school. If it is not an option due to cost of tuition (*there are scholarships), the village school is a waldorf inspired public school.
