Questioning my 5 year old daughter...

by Angela

My daughter is 5 years old and just started Kindergarten. I have never seen a Dr. for any of my "concerns" because I thought she was just going through phases. My worry is that it is just getting worse. She is super emotional and cries and runs when I turn the vacuum on or her dad starts the lawn mower and she's outside, she screams at me in the mornings because her sock isn't right and it's hurting her after we put her shoes on, she can't wear jeans b/c she says they feel scratchy.

She's smaller than most the girls in her Kindergarten class. She whines ALOT. She likes to take cold baths because she says the water is too hot at even luke warm water. She goes from saying things are too loud to screaming at her brother at the top of her lungs. I just don't get it, Maybe there is nothing wrong and I'm just being a worry wart? But these things among others don't seem to be like normal child characteristics.

She could have a sensory processing disorder. You should get her evaluated. It sounds like a strong possibility.

Hello. I am a mother to a two year old boy from the Philippines. Just like you, we have behavioral problems with our son. Hang in there. Good luck. Just get an opinion from a developmental pediatrician. You are not alone.

Get a referral for an occupational therapist evaluation from your primary. The longer you wait the more these issues will be compounded by other issues. more information and education is never the wrong move~
good luck
