SPD and exposure to depakote

I have epilepsy and took depakote at the beginning of my pregnancy with my daughter and then switched to lamictal. My daughter, now 4, has been diagnosed with SPD and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not there is a connection between depakote or lamictal and SPD.

connection between spd and depakote
by: Anonymous

I took depakote throughout my pregnancy and my child has spd. He is under responsive proprioceptive and underresponsive vestibular. He has oral defensiveness as well. I always wondered if there was a connection.

LamIctal or Depakote

I'm curious to know if there is some relationship to SPD and the mental illness that these medicines treat.

health freak
by: coolade

I was a health freak, organic vegetarian, 39 years old. I worked all the way through my pregnancy, had my son Sunday morning, and went back cleaning the next day. I was healthy with all tests results being better than then the average bear. Birth was one of the best ones I had as I opted out for pain killers with the previous four. My son was 7 when he was diagnosed with SPD, Cognitively Gifted with learning disabilities, 8 now. He was hell on earth. Have to say if he had been my first, I would have killed him. He was lucky I was a laid back older mum. Most did not believe us and even the school poo paa?d it until now. It is not recognized by the Government in NZ, so is not funded. I had a brother who was kind of crazy. You?d be surprised when you look back in your pass to what you remember and it clicks.

Re SPD and depakote
by: Christine

I don't know how long ago you posted this but... it is and interesting question. My 7 year old daughter had been on depakote for the past 3 years and I am starting to think she has SPD... researching her symptoms led me to this site.
