Sudden Sound Sensitivities Aged 8

Hi, Since starting junior school in September my daughter has developed a sensitivity to the sound of paper and pencils writing on paper. This sensitivity has since expanded to people breathing too heavily and walking on carpets/fabric scraping against items.

Can this come on suddenly like this and things that didn't bother her previously suddenly do?

Thank you, your comments are very helpful. She often won't tell me what the sounds are as then she says she can then hear them going round her head. We'll do all we can to help her.

Hi! I'm 62 years old and been living with this before it has a name. I hope they do more research on it I see doctors for anxiety and panic attacks but that came later in my 20's.

Sometime when I was a kid popping gum, chewing and breathing through nose bothered me badly. It gets worse and then not so worse but since I was around 10 I started getting annoyed even angry at noises. Scritches of pencells on paper didn't get me though. When I don't feel well it's worse. When my ears rings it's worse.

Once I have a trigger; (someone clanking on a plate noise say) it turns into a visual trigger too to see a person eating on a plate I try to avoid. Don't let them give your girl anti-depressants they always push that as a cure all. She's extra sensitive. That should be a good thing but in this world of hurry and pursuit; it's not so much. Good luck
