Teen girl who possibly has SPD

Ever since I was little I was excessively sensitive. I do not have autism or adhd or any other diagnosis. I hated loud noises, get startled easily, loud music would distract me, I would cover my ears a lot. I also hated bright lights, they made me feel bothered and distressed. Often, i’d end up feeling panicky and nervous about being in noisy or crowded places.

Now, at the age of fifteen, I still have this severe sensitivity. It’s mostly noises that set me off, but sometimes it’s light or being near too many people. I always have my computer monitor on the lowest possible light setting and still think it”s too bright. People who talk and laugh loudly throw me off; I feel really uncomfortable around them. I am also intensely sensitive to pain and am extremely ticklish, sometimes to the point where I panic.

Do you think this is possibly SPD? As I’ve said, i’ve never been diagnosed with anything.

I am an occupational therapist in Ontario. According to your symptoms you seem to have sensory over-responsivity (SOR) to noise, specifically. I'd suggest you should meet up with a professional who can assess you in more detail.

Yes I think you should see an occupational therapist to see if you have it. It sounds like you do.

I think you probably have SPD. You go into a flight/fight response with loud noises or tickling which is common for sensory over responsivity.
