My 36-month son covers his ears when he listens to a rhyme or a song that he hasn't heard in a long time. I've also noticed that he covers his ears while waiting for a rhyme to start playing. Is this normal behavior?

hearing sensitivity in toddlers

My son did that at age three also, and I worried about SPD. But he is 4 1/2 now and doesn't do it anymore. I think he was more sensitive than most 3 year olds but has outgrown that.

Most people do cover their ears when they think something is going to be too loud. It is a normal response. Does he cover his ears and then scream or cry for longer than expected times or do noises cause him a higher amount of anxiety than what would be expected.
