Treatment for Adults with Sensory Defensiveness

I have had sensory defensiveness since I was a child.




I'm now 59 years old and just realizing this is a real diagnosis and hope to find treatment other than anti-anxiety meds.

Oh gosh I am also 59 and struggled all my life with sensory defensiveness and a huge amount of misunderstanding. It has been very painful. I have of course developed MANY of my own strategies to cope with life but these fail at times and distress returns.

I am delighted that I have found forums that recognise this condition but sad that it is all for children. Of course children are the next generation and we must help.as early as we can but having had to cope all my life on my own with this and having had to suffer so much misunderstanding and labelling and judgement it would be so nice just to find some guidance and understanding for the remaining years of my life.

I would be grateful for your advice. Many thanks

my partner is suffering from what we believe to be SPD, or as noted by another poster, Sensory Defensiveness. He is in his late 40's and becoming disfunctional and depressed by this disability. anti depressants and anti anxiety medication did not help. I am helping him to seek treatment in the Boston Area and do not know where to begin. Please provide any resources that might help us on this search and thank you!
