What states recongnize spd diagnosis

I need to know what states recognize SPD as a diagnosis so that kids can qualify for help in their schools.

How about Chicago schools?

SPD

Granted in some cases there is a problem if SPD: But that does not mean that there are many developmental disorders of which the SPD is only a symptom of the primary cause. For example ASD, PDD-nos ASPERGER
etc.. Given that each child disorders may vary in intensity and number of symptoms. So where children have behaviors that do not change with the normal rules of education, we must look for other possible causes. By meeting the needs of these children and their families.

School problems
by: Anonymous

i wish to give an humble suggestion to parents of children with school problems and not just caused by SPD. Looking for a specialist in neuropsychiatry and through observing the child, to certify the disorder and talk with the school. is incredible that you do not put a reflection on the many developmental disorders in childhood.

Made to feel stupid by the administration
by: Anonymous

Not only does the school my son go to here in Florida raise eyebrows and play off my son's disorder, they have actually slandered my son by speaking openly, where other people could hear, and saying that, "...he just wants attention and is disgusting..." It kills me to check him in late every single morning because he simply cannot stand to get dressed in the morning. They have no idea what we all go through every morning and God bless them that they didn't have a child with Sensory Processing Disorder. I feel ashamed to walk into the school because I have done everything that I can do only to have everyone point and shake their heads. I actually had a mother tell me that other parents thought we must all be creeps to have such a troubled child and that she told them that I was actually quite a lovely person. I was glad that she had stood up for me, but on the otherhand, geez! I WISH the school system would recognize this DX and educate at least the faculty about it. I have done what I can to advise them, but I feel that they don't believe that he has a problem and that he is just a manipulative child who will stoop to low measures for attention. Good luck to all of us who have issues at school.

They don't

SPD is not rexognized in the DSM-IV so school districts don't recognize it. There are other codes that can be used to get an IEP.
