OCD and Tactile Sensory Disorder

My 9 year old dislikes all clothing but will wear dresses.

I recently read articles about Strep infections and possible links to inflammation of the brain that can induce sensory issues. I also read about PANDAS which is a autoimmune disorder assoc with Strep. But I hit a brick wall when trying to find Doctors that understand it or will try and help me diagnose our daughter to see if this could be the link to all the Tactile, OCD, and anxiety issues.

Does anyone have any advice or other info assoc with OCD, Tactile, and anxiety?

Our Daughter also is allergic to peanuts... another major challenge to control.

Thanks

There you have it! Vaccinations have peanut oil in them hence the increase in peanut allergies and who in their right mind injects aluminum, lead formaldehyde Into an infant whose brain isn’t developed???

35 vaccinations by the time they are 5. A huge science experiment which we are now seeing the effects of. Wake up people the APA sleeps with big pharm! They ought to be advocating for our children instead they blindly follow "studies" funded my big pharm. instead of using pure logic!

Most pediatricians have no ability to problem solve and are completely dismissive of parents, moms in particular. They are bottom feeders. We will be seeing more and more!

I have three grandchildren with Pans/Pandas, which the MOTHER had to diagnosis after two years of running in circles with the pediatrician. I’ve been an OT for over 30 years. None of this surprises me, breaks my heart but not surprising.

PANDAS/PANS is REAL
by: Anonymous

My daughter developed clothing sensitivity in 2012 after what we now know was flu. This was the start of PANS or often known as PANDAS.

March 2016 this went off the wall after another flu/scarlett fever episode and she found herself unable to wear any clothing. We saw an OT but suddenly realised this was more than SPD as she started developing rage, trichollomania (hair pulling) short term memory loss and huge separation anxiety including phobias.

16 consultants later we have a diagnosis of PANS and she underwent IVIG. This was an auto-immune encephalitis brought on by a pathogen. Could be viral or bacterial. I would urge anyone who experience this to see if it follows an infection of any kind. If it does you child probably has PANS/PANDAS. Research it. Look athlete PANS PANDAS network for more information.

Strep
by: Anonymous

Our child exhibited the usual SPD issues getting dressed for 6-9 months from approx 5 years old. It was hell. On reading about pandas and getting a test from our Doctor. Within 2 months she is a different child with zero symptoms.

The more we read the more important it seems to pass this information on - as there are other viruses that might also affect the same parts of the brain and many more children being labeled for, and treated for psychological issues which are actually a simple virus and physical brain malfunction.

OCD, SPD, Pandas, anxiety, peanut allergy- must be a link!
by: Anonymous

My daughter, now 12 is also dealing with OCD, sensory issues, anxiety, and has a severe peanut allergy. She also seems to test positive for strep even when she doesn't have very bad symptoms--the Dr. thinks that she is a carrier. We've looked into Pandas and think there is a link. There seems to be an underlying condition that must be creating all of these symptoms for all of us.

OCD, PANDAS and Tactile Sensory Disorder
by: J's Mom

I never knew anything about PANDAS until I just recently saw an article on MSN about Strep, OCD and PANDAS.

In 2008, my daughter had several boughts with Strep and the one that hit right before the OCD symptoms started was Strep (allergic reaction of hives from Amoxicillin when we found penacillin allergy) followed by the Flu (104 temp) and then all kinds of OCD symptoms (handwashing 15xday so much so that her hands were red & raw and if she touched anything when sitting down she'd go wash again - also checking toothpaste amount every night because she was afraid she'd be poisoned - obsessive thoughts - sleep disturbance - so itchy in her own skin that she tried to get out of a moving car -- Good Times!) and extreme sensory defensiveness. The severe OCD syptoms cleared up after a few weeks (probably because of the antibiotics in retrospect) but the sensory and sound defensiveness continued for years and we did OT, Wilbarger Brushing and the "Listening" progra for sound sensitivity which really helped and now my daughter is soooo much better.

I read about PANDAS that your own immune system basically attacks your body vs. the Strep. They said that if you had a family history of autoimmune disorders (like MS in my family history) then your child is more succeptible to it. Weirdly enough one of the case studies had a child with a penacillin allergy (like my daughter) so I thought that was interesting.

My Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician said that it's hard to prove and PANDAS is controversial but I definately think there is a link between Sensory, OCD and Strep after what happened to my daughter. They also said that once the girls menstruate that they tend not to get strep and the symptoms therefore disappear and I have seen a big improvement in my daughter since she had her period.

I hope they figure it out before more children suffer. My regular pediatrician did a blood test to rule out Lyme and Thyroid at the time of the severe OCD but never mentioned PANDAS. I'm trying to get a copy of it just in case he tested for Strep Titers but I doubt it.

I have the same thing when I was younger I couldnt wear certain clothes, and couldnt touch things wit certain feelings. I have to blow dried with a hair dryer, never wore shoes once they got wet, i used to eat sand cause of the texture and fabric softeners( my mom would hide them from me) I could play in laundry soap forever! I still have some weird things like that. I HATE when things are uneven it makes me wanna cry and I have a break down sometimes. Im 15 now and its still hard to deal with specially in school when its not my choice for things to be even. Ugh so annoying!

Yeah to Amoxicillian...no more strep...sensory issues gone!
by: Anonymous

My daughter has had a terrible time getting dressed since four year old kindergarten began. She hates all seems and moving from summer shorts and t-shirts to pants and long sleeve shirts. Our mornings were extremely challenging just to get clothing on her body. She was treated for strep throat two weeks ago and she is a different child. She is wearing pants and tops she would not ever consider wearing. No tears, or whining!!!!! She was feeling ill but not even complaining about her throat when she was tested positive. I have to say that I believe there is a correlation!

There's hope
by: Anonymous

Hi,
I have recently found out about a nutritional supplement, not a drug, that helps with these kinds of disorders. It's called EMPowerplus. You can find out about it at www.truehope.com. You can read about studies that have been done in OCD cases and also Autism, as well as many other mental illnesses. Take the time to check it out. I'm currently giving it to my 6-year-old who suffers from ADD and ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). It has really helped him. I know a lot of other people who have been helped by it as well.
Good luck!

OCD/PANDAS
by: Michelle

Hi there!! I'm 19 years old and suffer from OCD and PANDAS. After getting my tonsils removed my OCD and strep is under control. I used to get strep every 2 weeks and my OCD was off the charts. After getting my tonsils out I can now control my OCD and live a normal life. If you have any questions feel free to email me. I'd love to hear from you.

My daughter has Autism and is nonverbal but she also has to touch everything including corners for at least four times before moving on her way. Does anyone else have children that do this and how do you help them over come these issues. It is controlling her life and everyone else around. I know that it is OCD but because she is nonverbal we can not find anyone to help us with her problems. We also believe that it has some to do with Sensory issues. I spend 5 hours each day getting her dressed in the morning and ready for bed at night. Any suggestions.
