5 year old who has been diagnosed with apraxia and gags on different textured foods

(Perth WA)

Hi! My son is now 5 years old and was diagnosed with apraxia of speech about 2 years ago. My son has attended speech therapy for his speech which has improved incredibly. We no longer need speech therapy but my son does see a speech therapist at his school, the language development centre, who is also working on his comprehension and social skills. The difficulty we are having at home and at school is that they do crunch and sip in the morning which is basically fruit & water. My son ate fruit when he was starting solids but went off his fruit around 1 year old. I can get him to have the smallest mouse nibbles without a problem, well with Apple at least, but anything more than a nibble and he gags and then vomits.

He can eat steamed carrots, pumpkin and broccoli and eats cooked potato but refuses to try any fruit, other vegetables or salad. When he has tried by taking small bites he has gagged and a couple times, vomited. I'm at a loss, please if you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

With thanks
