Can SPD develop as an adult?

I had no sensory issues as a child. At age 49 I started having problems with my fingertips and textures. Textures would cause extreme pain. Then it started in the tips of my toes and spread clear up my arms. Then I started having problems with certain smells & tastes causing extreme pain. All of the doctors I have been to basically say that I am crazy. Could this be SPD?
