Hand/Finger Water Sensivity

My child can not stand to have his hands or fingers wet. He claims it makes his finger tips hurt. After washing/swimming he will keep his hands firmly clenched and refuse to touch anything. Sometimes he will bang his hands against the wall to get them to stop hurting. This can go on for quite a while.

Obviously it makes daily activities difficult. He has never liked his fingernails clipped and this level of anxiety over his hands has gone on for about 2 years (he is 8). He doesn't exhibit any other problems. Does this fall into the category of sensory processing disorders? Any suggestions?
