Itching

by Marion
(UK)

My son constantly scratches. He scratches virtually every part of his body.

He has had eczema since he was a child, however he has none currently and I am 99.9% certain the itching is nothing do do with his eczema.

He has profound learning disabilities, no speech, epilepsy (on two drugs, no 3 about to be added) and is tactile defensive.

I wondered if there is any such thing as a sensory dysfunction itch?!

does anyone know please

Marion

My brother has spd and can’t sleep well and says he is itchy.
by: Anonymous

My brother with spd has constantly gotten up saying that he is itchy, under his 2 soft blankets and weighted comforter which I have rearranged at least the 4 times he has gotten up tonight. I’ve tried to figure out if it’s his clothes or what, but he is 8 and can’t figure out why he is so itchy, and frankly, neither can I.

Anyone know any tricks?

I'm the same
by: Solace

I'm 20 as we speak, and I've had an intense itch over my whole body for as long as I can remember. I scratch so much I put holes in my skin, and am covered in various scars from it. I'm also unsure if it's a sensory processing disorder, hence ending up here. I was trying to figure it out, but couldn't seem to find anything that sounded even remotely similar, until now. I know it's not helpful to your son's situation, but at least there is comfort in knowing he is not the only one.

Food sensitivity possibly?
by: K.

My daughter with SPD was constantly scratching to the point of bleeding and was genuinely very itchy. It took us a couple of years to recognize that it was caused by food sensitivities. Sensitivities are different from allergies. We did see allergists and weren't able to pinpoint anything. We did an elimination diet and discovered the food dyes as the problem. No more itching. We also lather with lotion after every bath and have added supplements like omega-3. Hope this can be helpful to you or another frustrated/bewildered parent.

ITCHING!
by: Salena

I am an adult. No eczema and no allergies. I suffer from this as well. I have no learning disabilities or delays. I am a normal functioning adult.

I do also suffer from itching just as you have described. I also occasionally have what feels like electrical jolts in different parts of my body. I am trying to research this topic to find relief.

I am not always like this, but when it flares, It is agonizing! Stress is a big trigger for me as is being hot.

Hope it helps. I am trying to figure it out as well!
