My son and his socks

My 7 year old son is so picky about his socks. I have to buy new socks all the time because he does not like the texture of them once washed. He says they are crunchy.

He also hates the seams. Anyway, I of course always make him wear them and we do a scream and yell match with each other each morning about the damn socks.

He has now learned to adapt. What he does now is only wears his socks inside out because he only likes the soft side. And, he rubs spits on his feet before he puts them on so that the socks are not crunchy anymore. lol. omg!

Have you tried ironing the socks ? It can take the stiffness out of them , use a pillow case or something similar to place on top of them before you iron them , so they don’t burn 🙂

Good-looking and nice socks
by: Ian

My 11 year old boy just can't stand rough and thick socks on his feet, so we always go for smart dress socks by Polo Ralph Lauren, which are soft and seamless. Of course, they are kind of expensive and too smart for daily school grind and it seems a pity when I caught the boy tramping around in his socks but they are pretty cute and make the boys' feet look great! Furthermore, dress socks last longer as they don't get loose after machine washing. The boy just loves his socks and I've never had any complaints about rubbed feet.

Our son has the same issue. It can be a pickle sometimes to find the "right socks" but certainly not worth a morning fight, and if wants to wear them inside out......so be it. At least he goes to school happy :)

Haven't used them ourselves as we have found a type of socks he likes to wear. Big and fluffy, nice and soft, and so a reasonably happy child in the mornings who doesn't worry about his socks.

My son is on the ASD. He has this particular tension over socks as well. Very time consuming in the morning rush to attend school. Funny little habits we will always remember though when they get older.

Nice to know there are other peculiar creatures out there. Don't feel so alone and almost feels a little less strange.

I also wear my socks inside out, that seam drives me nuts otherwise.

Just make sure to get pure cotton socks, plain coloured ones are best, if they have any shiney bits or any sown in bits them avoid them, i know how seriously annoying that stuff is

Socks!
by: Anonymous

Ok, so he wears his socks inside out! In the grand scheme of things, that's not a big deal and not worth ruining mornings, as long as he's cool with it. Remember to let him know how proud you are of him for figuring out a solution on his own (and still wearing the socks).

I can see where the spitting could be gross, but maybe he would compromise with rubbing in some lotion instead? Keep looking for socks that are soft enough...hey what about dress socks that are not fuzzy on the inside? Or maybe silk type sock liners that would go under hiking socks?

Good luck and hang in there!

My grandaughter spits and wets all her clothes with water, she cannot wear sock or underwear. If we try and get her to wear these things she freaks out and everybody is late for work. OMG
