Rubberband issues

My 7 yr. old son has a problem with rubber bands. I cannot find anything as far as what to do about it. Stretching a rubber band, such as to use it on a geoboard causes him to gag and then throw up. I have asked an OT how to help him with this since many professions/ daily life situations could have a rubber band involved. I was told not to make a big deal about it and it can pass. Someone else suggested an issue with latex. He also has stated that he does not like the rubber gloves that doctors use. For both items he has told me they smell bad.

Could this be an spd with the olfactory sense? I cannot find anything on the internet and pediatricians have just dismissed anything about spd. help.

Does he have any other issues? You could have him tested for this allergy then decide if it might be related to spd.

Only you know your child so go with what your instincts are telling you.
